Our Team

Peter Sacco, Co-Founder and CEO

Peter wears a mustache because he is serious, but doesn’t take himself too seriously. He loves all things human, ocean, and travel. Peter’s vision is to scale Adelante’s handmade production and revolutionary impact throughout Latin America. His favorite bit of inspiration? “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

Bob Mott, Co-Founder and Head of Finance

Originally from California, Bob has worked in five countries and enjoys everything sports related. After consulting for different social enterprises over the last few years in Latin America, Bob is excited to jump into Adelante and revolutionize sustainable business practices. Bob's idol is Japanese chef Jiro Ono, because of his continued commitment to mastering the art of making sushi.

Horacio Alvarez, Co-Founder and Production Manager

Born the son of coffee pickers or “campesinos” in Pastores, Horacio Alvarez began working in his uncle’s boot shop at eight-years-old. He was the first in his family to attend college — he studied psychology at San Carlos University of Guatemala — before returning to Pastores to open Horacio’s Boots, just one block from his childhood home. Horacio loves to travel his beautiful country and read novels by Brazilian author Paulo Coelho.

Leah Russell, VP of Brand and Marketing

After building her career working for Fortune 50 corporations, Leah discovered her true calling with mission-driven start-ups. She is now delighted to spend her days making an impact as part of the Adelante crew. A lover of nature and this awe-inspiring planet, Leah is known for her killer pomegranate ice cream, as well as regularly completing the Saturday New York Times crossword puzzle in less than 15 minutes.

Michael Pelzer, Co-Founder and Head of Operations

Mike's flaming red hair is an apt metaphor for his fierce passion in everything he does. He cut his teeth in non-profit management, priding himself in his ability to fix what's broken and lay the groundwork for long-term success. Mike operates under the assumption that there is always room for improvement and is fluent in three languages: English, Spanish, and Excel.

Julia Barry, Co-Founder and Head of Content Marketing

Julia graduated as an English major from Colby College with an appetite for adventure, a strong interest in social justice, and absolutely no idea what the future would have in store for her. She is thrilled to be part of the Adelante team and further a movement towards ethical business practices worldwide. Julia is a grammar nut and “social media guru” who loves cheese, French wine and traveling off the beaten path.

Marina Pastrana Rios, New England Regional Sales Manager

Originally from Mexico, Marina grew up on both sides of the Tijuana-San Diego border. Moving to Boston in 2004 she first pursued her bachelors in Business Administration and after several research trips to Nicaragua, El Salvador, and Mexico she continued her education with a masters of Theological Studies, focusing on ethics in business. After a two and a half year adventure in Paris she returns to Boston to join the Adelante team.

Sarah Otis, New York Regional Sales Manager

After spending a year as a Princeton in Latin America fellow with a small nonprofit on Lake Atitlan, Sarah fell in love with Guatemala and its artisans. She returned to New York to work in grant-making and two years later left to join the forward-thinking team at Adelante. Sarah speaks multiple languages – Spanish, Portuguese, and a (very) small amount of Maya Tz’utujil. She also enjoys live music, film photography, and sweaty dance parties.

Andrea Cuevas, Fulfillment Manager

Being a fashion enthusiast, dog lover and music fanatic all at the same time are just some of the things that make Andrea who she is. Over the past 15 years she has done just about everything one can do in customer service and retail. She was born in Guatemala and lived in Europe where she was adopted by the Irish for nine years. She's very excited to work at Adelante and ensure everybody gets the boots they want. Oh also her dogs name is Guajkax which means cow  - he sure looks like one.
